Our Philosophy and Methodology

The main pillars of Homebuddy’s methodology are:

  1. Unconditional Positive Regard: Everyone is doing the best they can with what resources they have. Everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt and we can always try again.

  2. The Past Does Not Equal the Future: Life and behavior are formed through a series of choices and conditioned patterns that can be changed. Just because something is hard today, does not mean that it will always be hard. Everyone is capable of change.

  3. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA): The science of behavior applied in real-life to socially significant and client-centered behaviors and goals. Our founder is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with nearly a decade in experience in the field of ABA working with families of all kinds.

  4. Empowerment Comes Via Responsibility: When we take responsibility for how we interact with the world and others, we begin to heal our lives and relationships. At Homebuddy, we teach YOU the tools, techniques, strategies, and research-backed interventions that will transform the relationship with your children and yourself.

  5. Cost-Effective and Sustainable Solutions: According to the science of human behavior, the longer we engage in a habit/response, the harder it is to change. By deciding to change your family’s habits today, you are setting you and your family up for a better future and more time to enjoy together. Our goal is to work ourselves out of a job and have you thriving sustainably.

Sophia Mandilas, M.Ed, BCBA, LBA

Born in Buffalo, NY, to a cobbler and an occupational therapist, Sophia has been involved in working with children and individuals with disabilities her entire life, and knows how to get her hands dirty. She lived in Houston, TX while finishing her undergraduate degree at the University of Houston, and worked for 3 years at a pediatric rehabilitation clinic. She then pursued her Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati while working as a case-carrying Behavior Consultant for 4 ½ years. During this time, her mentors and the families she worked with had such a positive and life-changing impact that she became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Sophia returned to Houston to be closer to family and give back to her adoptive community. She enjoys hiking, gardening, painting, playing around in the kitchen, learning more about herself, and going on adventures.

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”
